We pick you up at your hotel and head straight for the Monte Alban ruins, about 15 minutes from the city. The ruins are quite expansive and usually takes at least 2 hours to explore, expecially if you hire a guide, (which is recommended). After visiting the ruins we go to Arrazola which is the "Green Pottery" town. In Arrazola you can find inexpensive, yet beautifully crafted pieces of green pottery which makes this town the perfect place to buy those souvenirs for those back home. |

| Zaachila - Only Thursdays |

Thursday is market day for the town of Zaachila, the red pottery town. If you have never been to an indigenous market in Oaxaca, I got to tell you it is an experience that you will never forget. The smells, the colors, the people, all just seem to come together and transport you out of the world you were in and put you someplace else. Someplace new. After the market we go the ex-convent of Cuilapan. Now as if you weren't "wowed" enough in the marketplace, this 16th century construction will wow you more. Do you know how it was to be in Mexico at the time of the Spanish conquest? No? Well, stepping into this ex-convent is literally like stepping into a time portal and you truly feel as if you were back in the 1600's when Christianity was just being introduced to the indigenous population here in Mexico. Now... coming back to the present day, after Cuilapan we go to to San Bartolo Coyotepec to check out the black pottery and perhaps see a demonstration of how it is made. Good chance to purchase one or two things for gifts or for the house. |
